What western bridle should I buy?
Hi, so my horse and I are going to begin 4-H.
I would like to get into western trail class, and walk/jog class, and some gymkhana.
I am a beginner, and my horse is 21 so i am wondering what bridle i should buy.
At the moment I ride english and my horse uses a D snaffle bit and english bridle.
What should I buy for beginning western shows/practice?
Please also include some examples for sale.
I want to buy it on ebay, so if you could please give me a link of something that would be useful.

Out of the links you posted, get either the first or last one, whichever one matches your saddle. The black one looks dull, but I'm sure it's nothing some conditioner couldn't fix. Weaver bridles are pretty good though and they're cheap. They sell leather ones. If you're going to be showing then don't get nylon.
I have a Circle Y headstall with silver. I really like it. They sell bridles though for trail classes and such without silver and they're cheaper.
As for the bit, it really depends on a horse. I ride two horses who go english in a snaffle bit, and for western they use a 7" shank 1" ported solid bit. It's wonderful for getting them to neck rein and riding with really loose rein. My horse uses a kimberwicke for english, and I put him in this bit with an added chain. This bit can be harsh, but not unless you make it that way. If he already knows how to go off the rein though, you can just keep him in a snaffle.

Western "Internal Horse Show-Trail Open"
I`m going to do a trail class for my schools equastrian team and i was wondering if anyone had any tips it?
I have ridden western but i dont really "do western" i mostly do hunters and equitation. so i would like some tips on training and what to wear. my horse is really good and already neck reins and all of the obstacles in the trail classes that I have seen shouldnt faze him. Plus i dont have a huge budget for show clothes so what sould i wear?
Well first of all, you do know that you can do trail class in hunt attire and tack, correct? At least, any scholastic association I know allows it, including the MIHA. But if you do prefer to go into western and really want to make a good impression, there are a few things you're going to need:
For your horse, make sure that he not only neck reins, but is sharp. He is going to need to be prepared to side pass, pivot on the forehand and hind, jog over poles (which I’m sure will not be a problem), cross bridges, step on tarps (or possibly through water), open and close a gate, and maneuver through many obstacles at the walk, jog, and lope (both leads.) To make a good western impression, you’re going to want him to have a slower, collected speed and maintain a good headset. To train for this, work on cuing him with flawless results, do cross-over exercises to shorten his stride (at the jog and lope), and practice a lot of bending that will allow for a good headset, give at the poll, and responsiveness.
For your horses tack, make sure that you have a good fitting saddle. It needs to fit you so that you have enough room to make a fist and place it both in front of and behind yourself in the saddle. It needs to fit your horse by not pinching him at the withers or being too wide and laying on them. It does not have to have silver, but silver does make for a little more professional look. Either way, make sure it is a pleasure type saddle in a color that compliments your horse, and that you’ve put some elbow grease into cleaning it.
For yourself, you need good fitting, complimentary western attire. A typical outfit would include a good western hat (preferably felt), a western zip up rail shirt or horsemanship tunic, chaps, pants, and boots. Your chaps, pants, and boots should match, and in the case of wearing black or sand, your hat should match too. (There are some exceptions to the hat rule – depending on the color of your shirt, if you are wearing dark chaps (say black) and your top has a lighter color incorporated into it (like a white collar) you may wear a white hat.) Accessories you will need are a belt, belt buckle, a scarf or necklace if your shirt has an open neck, and hair products to make your hair presentable. (You can purchase a premade hair bow, but be careful to get one that matches well and isn’t too gaudy. I personally put my hair in a small, neat bun at the base of my neck, wrap a thin hairnet around it, and put a small ribbon at the top that matches my outfit.)
To get any of this stuff, see if you could borrow it from any of your teammates or friends. Otherwise, if you do choose to invest in it, check out second hand apparel. eBay.com, tacktrader.com, and equine.com all have sections for western show apparel, and you can get good quality pieces at even better prices.
I hope this helps, and to help you understand trail class a little more I have attached some websites with pictures, information, and videos. And remember – high school competition is based on the rider. Keep your horsemanship in mind, wait for the judge’s nod to begin, and create a flawless ride (and don’t forget to look at your judge again after you’ve completed your last obstacle). Good luck!
