Questions on Western Saddles?
I have been using a synthetic saddle for that last year and my dad is going to buy me a new saddle for Christmas. Just have some questions on your saddles??
Did you get yours used?
What Brand?
How much did you pay for it?
How long has it lasted?
Would you reccomend it to me?

Did you get yours used? I buy most of my saddles used but do have a couple I bought new.
What Brand? I currently own Eli Millers, Buena Vistas, a Dixieland, Bighorns, a McClellan, and a Circle Y. Have also owned Blue Ridge, TexTan, a Martha Josey and several off-brands.
How much did you pay for it? I've paid anywhere from $50 to upwards of $2,000 for a saddle.
How long has it lasted? All of my saddles have lasted a long time, some were antiques and still ridable, one is almost 100yrs old and still in use (after being completely redone of course.
Would you recommend it to me? If you are looking for a good all-around saddle and want another synthetic I recommend the Bighorn I have.

It is very comfortable, lightweight and holds up good to rough use. By shopping around you can find it cheaper, that was just the first place I found it. I only paid $600 for mine from a local tack shop.
If you want something a little fancier and in leather I'd still recommend a Bighorn or a Circle Y, but go used instead. The Bighorns aren't as great as they used to be, the older ones are better quality and already broke in. Circle Y makes great saddles too but are pricey. The Park and Trail model is nice, can be found at affordable prices used and is a durable saddle. I currently have one and am pleased with it. If you want to go all-out, I suggest a custom-made saddle. Dixieland is my saddle maker of choice for those and their models start around $1,000. Each saddle is custom made. Drawbacks are you have to take the time to go through the fitting process (fairly easy, they send you the fit forms and instructions and work with you one-on-one). Then you have to wait for the saddle to be built and sent to you. They specialize in gaited saddles but will make any kind, all saddles are built on Steele trees. If you want something unique and happen to ride gaited horses High Cotton Saddlery by Henry Miller and 4Beat Stitchery are two I highly recommend. High Cotton's saddles are Eli Miller's designs built by his son-in-law, they have Old-timer, Buena Vista and Western models. 4Beat specializes in Minniehan and spring seat saddles. Both are pricey, plan on spending over $1,500. Sometimes you can luck out and find them used but don't count on it. They aren't saddles that hit the market often, especially the Minniehans.
