Have you ever bought a WESTERN saddle online?

So I've been thinking about buying a saddle and I found one in a tack store that I really like but it's a tad over my budget lol.

So I was wondering if you have ever bought one online how do you know the saddle fits the horse? I know there's such things a full qh bars, etc... I don't know what these mean or if they have anything to do with it since I've never fitted a horse for a saddle and never saddle shopped before.

Thanks. :)

I have bought 2 saddles and know of other people who've bought saddles online, too.

All were fine experiences. True to their word. And with a week's trial period.

How I know that the saddle I bought fit the horse, was because the second saddle I bought was a Timberline saddle that's got flexible panels that are attached to the tree....so it fits most horses automatically.

The first saddle was a Billy Cook and the horse I had was a wide back mutton withered type and that's the gullet size I got and since it's a quality saddle, it fit great.

If you don't know the meanings of FQHB and Semi bars, etc...then you need to do the research. Google

Also...it's not just about the bars...which is the gullet size (how wide or narrow the tree will be).....it's also about finding a round skirt for a short backed horse....or a square skirt that can fit a long backed horse....what kind of seat do you want? what kind of horn (if western), what kind of style, how much does the saddle weigh?....how long is the saddle?

Go to http://horsesaddleshop.com and find the saddle fit page.

There's also videos on Youtube.com that talk about saddle fitting.

also...you know ask wherever you buy online...if you're allowed 1 week of trial. Most places will allow this...except maybe ebay (I've heard mixed results from ebay saddles)....
