Remember the Feminist Majority's chant "Stop Sacrificing Women for Oil!" in the 1990's?
This was because the Taliban made women wear burkas and the Feminist Majority under the leadership of Kathy Spillar said the evil USA is ignoring the mistreatment of women for oil. First, Afghanistan still does not export one barrel of oil a day. Second, why haven't the Feminist Majority applauded the US for supporting an overthrow of the Taliban? Lastly, did anyone notice that women still wear the burka even though they are no longer required to by law, but all along the FM said the burka is NOT a cultural thing, it is imposed.
orange..., that was the most level headed balanced answer I have seen in my 2 weeks of being in yahoo answers.
1. Most informed activists in the 1990's understood that the reason the brutal Taliban regime was being courted had to do with Natural Gas pipelines, not oil. Perhaps "Stop Sacrificing Women for Oil!" was being shouted in reference to the Bush family's hand-holding boyfriends in Saudi Arabia. Then again, academic feminists are not the most intellectually circumspect group, so they could have confused oil and natural gas.
2. There was plenty of celebration from all corners about the over-throw of the Taliban. Unfortunately, the Bush crime family very quickly shifted almost all their attention away from Afganistan in order to pursue an illegal war in Iraq. The Taliban has been increasing in strength ever since the illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003.
3. Like any other religious or social issue, the degree of imposing/cultural choice is complicated. There are academic feminists who would try to argue that heterosexual intercourse in "imposed" on all women--clearly these women are extremists and unqualified to decide these things. But many Afgan women have stated that the return to wearing the burka in many regions is a direct result of the Taliban regaining control in an area. Similarly, there are areas in Iraq where the Burka was never seen under the secular Baath governments, but since the instability and chaos caused by the Bush Crime family's illegal invasion, conservative clerics have been left in de facto charge and have imposed these absurd dress codes.
I did a tour of duty in the region and can say that there is nothing on the planet more depressing than a country where they cover their women in sacks.

How to Drywall a Barrel Vault Ceiling - Archways & Ceilings Made Easy
Has OPEC made it harder for the USA to get out of the recession? Should OPEC cut oil production?
Today, OPEC cut 2.2million barrels of oil. Gas prices will increase and our recession will continue. OPEC's decision does not help the USA. OPEC does not want severe price spikes and that is why they are cutting oil production.
I was just asking the same thing it was expected to cut I think 1.5 million a day but 2.2 that's 750,000 more barrels per day cut
Who knows how high gas prices will raise up to now when this starts affecting Wall Street
I mean how are out of work people suppose to find work if they can't afford to go anywhere and the people with jobs how are they suppose to continue to pay for everything which is ever rising
I still have yet to see those fuel charge that were spiked in the summer months reduce the price of groceries, etc.

As an American Vet, I am at this point pretty ashamed of my country…As our “President” drives us along his chosen course of national nilism…I cant help but feel we are in a sort of twilight zone of “1984″ crossed with Hitlers final acts to destroy his Germany.
1. We are very close to declaring war on Iran —Oil will hit 100 dollars a barrel.
2. The subprime mortage –is melting the economy where it stands…
3. We have a president that can declare martial law anytime he gets an excuse..
4. As for the 15 year old that (now 20) that is held here, all I can say is, if they had something legit on him why havent they formally brought charges on him instead of keeping him locked up for 5 years?
5. From everything I can see it seems we got a clear case of Bureactratic limbo..
you have captured a bunch of nobodies and if you admit you havent got anything on them you throw the whole program into question.
So you keep them locked up and incomunicado so that no one will ever know you screwed up.
