The atomic Nature of Matter. I need help?
1. How many types of atoms can you expect to find in a pure sample of element?
2. What element results if one of the neutrons in a nitrogen nucleus is converted by radioactive decay into a proton?
3.What element results if two protons and two neutrons are ejected from a radium nucleus?
4. When 50 cubic centimeters of alcohol are mixed with 50 cubic centimeters of water, the volume of the mixture is only 98 cubic centimeters. Can you offer an explanation for this?
5. A cat strolls across your backyard. An hour later, a dog with his nose to the ground follows the trail of the cat. Explain this occurrence from a molecular point of view.

If you have a sample of, say, carbon, there will only be carbon atoms there.
BUT, Carbon comes in 3 isotopes; C12, C13, C14
So one answer is 'one', and another answer is 'depends on how many isotopes that particular element has'

It's called partial molal properties and it is why Chem Engineering thermodynamics are a beast....
Short answer is that the water molecules are attracted to the alcohol molecules [and vice versa] more than each is to its own kind.

Cat sheds scent molecules, some of which fall to ground. Some of those are sucked up into dog's nose.

There are a huge number of atoms in a human body, and they are constantly turning over. Even your bones are not just laid down and static; the body constantly lays down bone and tears it up. So I probably incorporate in my body at least a few atoms that for some period were in Dmitri Mendeleev's body.

The following rant is based not only on this question but on a couple others you just asked:
Oh my god, my disgust with your book is growing by the minute. Can I ask what grade level you are at? If it's elementary, this is not great (but I understand elementary teachers and even textbook writers aren't scientists). If it's middle, it's bad. If this is high school homework, that is absolutely unacceptable. Seriously, I'd talk to your parents and ask them to talk to your principle. If my kid brought this home, I'd be asking to see the science education standards for your grade level. Either they need to be revised or your teacher needs to read them. If you (or your parents or your teacher) want my email, msg me--I'll give them an earful.
None of those options is even remotely satisfactory.
Only the first option is even on topic. But electrons must certainly do not leave trails as they move. In fact, most electrons in atoms don't really move.
