It's always possible to take legal action. Whether your claim has a basis in law and whether you will win is something else.
It depends on the country you are in and the legal system which is applicable.
Some countries have laws requiring that all dismissals be fair and that due process is followed. This means that proper reasons for the dismissal have to be given.
Most countries would adhere to such a standard except perhaps the USA which has very weak labour laws and where it is relatively easy to fire someone.
As far as I know a candidate cannot be fired because he/she is not an employee. A candidate however may takeaction on the basis of not being awarded a job.
