Can I train a three year old thoroughbred racehorse to be a friendly, western/ english laid back riding horse?
I am looking at a racehorse who I wish to train to be friendly, laid back, and western or english horse. She is very tall, sort of wide. I really hope when I ride her she wont start cantering off real fast. Can you jump thoroughbred racehorses? HELP!!!!
Any horse is trainable
Ofcourse you can train her to be friendly and a good riding horse
She might canter fast to start with because if she was an ex racehorse she might think she has to race
It might help to canter her frst in an arena or roundyard
Do you know about the one rein stoping??
If she gets over excited and takes off faster than you want and you cant pull her up or she bucks,rears you turn her in a sharpe circle or enough so she cant buck,rear or bolt
If she does start going fast try slow her down before you do this otherwie she might fall
Yes any horse can jump some trainers take there horses over jumps when they are training for races so it gives them something different and it teaches them to pick there feet up
Start her off with some trotting poles and then some small jumps and work your way up
