If you haven't tried this particular pad have you tried any of the Reinsmen pads, and how did you like it?
the pad is for a friend, she just got a new horse and is looking something to provide some support and comfort. she is a quarter horse but could possibly have something else in her, her top line needs to be filled out quite a bit, she has high withers and is sunken in below her withers and shoulders, she needs to gain more muscle. were looking for a pad that will help support the sunken in parts of her body so she will be more comfortable until she fills out.
I had that exact same pad. I used it approximately 3 times before I sold it for about 1/4 of what I paid for it.
I had originally bought the pad to fix an iffy saddle fit in the shoulder area for one of my horses but the placement of the extra padding wasn't quite cutting it. I couldn't use the pad on any of my horses with well-fitted saddles because the padding interfered with the fit and would cause pressure spots. I ended up just getting a custom saddle for the horse that had the fitting issues because that pad just was not suitable for fixing the issue.
It is my opinion that that particular pad would only be useful for fixing very specific saddle fit issues. The extra padding is too low to function as a riser to keep the gullet off the withers, it's too far back to fill in for too much flare in the front of the bars and it's thick enough that it will interfere and cause pressure sores with a proper saddle fit.
Honestly, for the purpose you friend needs I wouldn't go with this pad. Instead I'd go with a nice thick wool pad without the extra padding in the shoulder area and get a fleece or gel shoulder bridge to use while the horse is filling out. That way she can place the shoulder bridge directly where it is needed. When the horse has gained the necessary muscle and no longer requires the extra padding she will still have a perfectly usable pad without the bridge.
Obviously I did not like the pad at all and I don't recommend it. And given the fact your friend needs only a temporary fix for this horse's fit while she is gaining muscle I'd go with a temporary fix like a shoulder bridge over an expensive pad designed for a long-term solution.
