Time for the first horse show!?
I've never got to show my horse, so i think I'd finally like to(:
He's never shown, neither have I.
I'm trying to get my list together of what i need..i have most of the items except a few so ill name them all off..
Navy hunt coat
show shirt
field boots
tan breeches
velvet hat
gloves(optional i think??)
Do you have to have a white pad or is that just optional too?
I'm not really nervous..i just feel unprepared because ive never done it!
I know i have to get a new bridle or borrow someone else's because i have a brown saddle and black reins/bridle haha!
Im 16, so any advice??

** sorry forgot to say im just doing a basic walk/trot english with him, maybe walk/trot equitation
-gloves and a white pad would look nicer. the neater you present yourself and your horse, the more the judge will have his eye on you.
-honestly, unless you throw everything from your barn into the trailer, we all forget certain things. i can make myself a checklist and still forget something, such as a bucket to pick up the droppings my horse leaves or extra safety pins for my number. either way, it's really hard to be 100% prepared.
-i show big with my horse, and i train as well. so the key is, practice, practice, and practice. as soon as they get the patterns out, run and get it to start memorizing it. if you aren't doing pattern classes, practice the little things with your horse, like standing up straight.
TIPS:
-walk into the arena like you know what your doing. have the attitude like "i have the winner right here!" dont be cocky though..
-have eye contact with the judge. dont be staring the whole time though. look at the judge for about 5 seconds, then check how your horse looks, and where you are going, then back to the judge, and repeat.
-dont be nervous, for one, your horse can sense that. and two, smile, and have a good time 
-if you are doing a pattern class and your horse doesnt do what needs done in a specific area, make him do it!
-if you mess up, dont make a big deal about it.
-spray lots of fly spray on so your horse will stand still.
-use vaseline or baby oil on your horse's nose, muzzle, eyelids, and the inside of the ears. this will make them glow.
-if your horse has whites, use baby powder on them to make them whiter. shapley's show touch up also helps on scars.
-use show sheen to help your horses mane and tail glisten. do NOT use on the body before tacking up because the saddle may slip.
-clear hoof polish or hoof black is great to make the hooves look beautiful.
last but not least, just have fun and do your best. it's not the end of the world if you do bad, and there are always other shows to try. and the most important key i have learned is "it is just ONE judges opinion."

Tack colors?
I'm buying a saddle and the brown saddles look so pretty! But i have black boots.. and personally i hate black and brown..(except on horses! lol)
Tan/black saddles are pretty with black boots.
black is nice but it seems just so boring..
what color looks best on a Bay horse? what do you think?

Are you talking about English, if so then the black brown combo will have to work. You have a bay horse, if it is a dark bay, then you want a ligther saddle no matter weather you show English or Western, the point of the tack is to get noticed, so dark horse=light saddle, and blues and reds look good on bays. and if you show English your pad should be white. And make sure your saddle and bridle match in color.
