and what would you pay for each one.
also you DON'T post in a western saddle, right?
on of my friends said you can't post in a western saddle, but she was talking about showing western so maybe its different??
It is difficult to judge a saddle for purchase just by a picture, and you are better going to a tack shop or have a saddle fitter come out with a selection of saddles and have them on your horse.
All of the saddles in the pictures do not show you the gullet properly and one of them in particular is flocked to much to the left, which when placed on your horse will cause discomfort and it will make you unbalanced also.
Saddles are the item of tack that are most traded second-hand. A good saddle can cost many hundreds of dollars, and they hold their value well. However, a poorly fitting or poor quality saddle can damage your horse’s back, so never buy a saddle that doesn’t fit properly, no matter how cheap it is. It is more difficult to check second-hand saddles, as much of the structure is not visible. The saddle is built round a framework called the tree, and damage to the tree may not be immediately obvious but will essentially render the saddle useless.
Place the saddle on a flat surface, with the front facing you. Press both hands down in either side of the cantle (front of the saddle). If there is any movement, the tree may be damaged. Now pick the saddle up, and hold it with the cantle (back) pressed against your breastbone. Pull the saddle back into your body. Any creaks or movement again may be indicative of damage. In addition, any creases or damage across the seat of the saddle may indicate old damage.
Next, check all the stitching for soundness. It is worth replacing worn stitching on a saddle, but large areas of wear may indicate that the saddle has not been well cared for and may have other faults.
Always remember that well fitting tack is essential for your horse’s comfort, and your own security. Your life may depend on the soundness of reins, stirrup leathers or girth straps, so never buy second hand tack that doesn’t appear to be sound and always follow your instincts!
If you are not sure your self ask an expert to help you. A cheap deal on line, may cost you hundreds if not thousands in vet fees because the saddle has caused serious issues.
