Saddle Fitting
Saddle fitting problem...should I sell it?

I have a 17" jumping saddle with a wide tree. I usually ride in a 16.5" and my horse takes a smaller tree. I'm not worried about it being 0.5" too big for me but that the tree doesn't fit my horse. Is there any type of saddle pad that can fix the problem or should I sell it and buy a new one?

You can actually probably make it work. My tree is a wide (32 cm) on my jumping saddle and my horse dropped some weight so that it fell onto his withers. I went ahead and had the flocking redone so that the channel was a little smaller around the wither and larger through to the back of the saddle. On my greenies, which always started out too skinny, I used an extra pad or two to fill up the extra space. The tree was sound and in good shape, and it was never too big a deal to pad up a horse that was really a medium or medium wide. If the horse were narrow, I wouldn't do it. But typically, the horse will widen up to a MW or W width with proper work through their back. It's the same idea as buying shoes when your a kid: at first they are a little too big, so you put on thicker socks, then use thinner ones when they fit right. Of course, once it's too small, it's too small.
