harnessing a horse (single breast collar harness)?
hey how exactly do you harness a single horse? with a breast collar harness to a cart/wagon/buggy/carriage.
I know basics, like the breaststrap, neckstrap, saddle, crupper, breeching, but I get confused once the harness is on the horse. ( ive never actually done it before)
Im the most confused about holdbacks, and how to actually hitch the horse to a wagon.
I know you put the shafts in the loops, but Im not sure how to fasten the holdbacks? or where does the swingle tree come in to place?
thanks guys!
oh, and the most details gets the best answer!
Id LOVE to hear an exact how to, of every step, and every tiny detail! thanks ![]()
ive seen some guides on the web but they are all to vague
I think breast straps are junk. You need a collar and a harness maker to come out and fit your harness to your horse. Collars with hames are much more comfortable for your horse. Those cheap breast straps wear out and usually rub your horse badly. The harness maker will be able to name every piece and part for you and tell you how tight/loose, how to adjust the overchecks properly, and the basics of how to hook safely etc. They will also tell you if any of your equipment is not safe. Take pictures. Tip them. Thank them. Mark the holes they use. Driving a cart with improper tack is an accident or runaway in the making. Find a trainer to take you and your horse out. DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF WITHOUT A PROFESSIONAL !!!!
