What do they call the jems or broaches that are in the pickups in wedding gowns?
I bought a red bridesmaid gown from Davids Bridal. I love it!!
But I want to add some bling to it. Does anyonw have any sugestions but still keeping it on the cheeper side. I think there is about 20 pickups in the gown. Thanks for any help.
They are called appliques and are generally lace patterns that have been beaded over with crystals.
Your best bet is to have a dress maker do this for you, though if you have some sewing skills you could probably do it yourself.
Choose the lace pattern you like, usually a largeish flower with some tendrils. You then cut the netting from around the more heavily laced/embroidered flower shape (not too close). Secure a matching coloured thread to one end of the pattern and one by one sew your crystals on following the flower around and to the other side. 1 stitch = 1 crystal or 'filler' bead.
Then all you need to do is have the flowers sewn onto the dress.
Depending how many crystals you use you could probably do one flower for about $2. You can buy genuine swarovski crystals for about 20c each from a bead store or for heaps less off ebay.
