Brand new saddle...How to break it in quickly?
Hi Everyone.....
I just got a new saddle today (Leather, No Name On It, Western), and I have a few questions about it.
First off it is suppose to have a rawhide tree?? Since I cant see it I am not sure if that is true. Is there such a thing?
Second. It is a bit wide in the skirts. Wider than any I have seen. Is it possible that with it being broke in it will slim down at all? Or could it be a manufacture mess up and that is the reason she got rid of it?
Third. What is the best and quickest way to break it in? I want to ride in it and see how it feels before I decide to keep it or sell it. II dont want to put it on my horse until its broke in at least a little because I dont want it to hurt him.
I got it for free because the lady who bought it didnt want it and just wanted to get rid of it because she has too many saddles.
Let me know your thoughts and advice.

you should be able to see the tree when you lift up the jockey to see what the tree is covered with,trees are made with different woods and each wood tree has different characteristics and flex.rawhide is a good reliable covering and i prefer it to fiberglass resin covered trees.a good thing to do is when you get a new saddle is to saddle soap the entire saddle to scrub off the wax coating on the leather(this may take several times to get the leather soft and supple) the horses sweat will help in the conditioning of the leather.saddle soap the saddle and wipe it down with a towel then saddle your horse while the saddle is still moist and go for a long ride.dont use a thick blanket so the saddle will mould itself to your horse.check for saddle pinching and pressure often so you dont get sores.after you remove the saddle make sure you use a saddle tree and put a broomstick or two by four in your sturrups to help turn them when the leather dries to get them just right for riding.i use a heavy cotton sail cloth cover for my saddles that i made to slow down the drying of the leather and keep it cleaner when not in use.clean your saddle often with saddle soap and keep the sheepskin clean and your saddle will last a long time.

Why do people think being so tan is hot?
Why is being tan almost to the point of being rawhide leather found attractive to people? This applies to both men and women.
In general, everyone looks a little healthier with a tan...but not a deep, dark, brown or orange tan. Too much tanning can do the reverse and make a person look leathery or on the verge of skin cancer.
But our culture glorifies the beautiful, tan, young body, so that is all we see anywhere. While people may look better with a tan (because it hides blemishes and other flaws and is slimming), eventually the "sun damage" will turn into wrinkles, age spots, and sometimes cancer.
So, having a small amount of tan is okay and somewhat healthy (producing vitamin D), but don't spend much time in the sun or tanning booth. Wear sunscreen and use a bronzer instead of doing irreversible damage to your skin!
