Was King of The Hill making fun of Texas and conservatives or did they actually like it?
Texans are notoriously proud of Texas and I doubt that any Texans were offended by that. The characters are Texan but also protestant southerners. They love their Barbeque and football.
My favorite character is Peggy Hill. She's a substitute Spanish teacher but doesn't realize how much her Texas accent gets in the way and she's actually very lousy at speaking the language. She has a high opinion of herself believes that she is very good looking and is only sensitive about her big feet*.
