Did people in the bronze age use a saddle to ride a horse?
If they did, what did it look like, and how did they put it on the horse and use it?
Not a saddle as such, but a saddle cloth or blanket, yes. Stirrups, no; those only came in at the very end of the Roman Empire.
NB that in Bronze Age Europe and the Middle East they didn't have tall horses, only ponies like the pony breeds of Britain and Scandinavia today. So they more often drove pairs of ponies in chariots rather than riding them. All the epic poems of the Bronze Age such as the Iliad, and the records and tomb paintings of the Egyptians and the Assyrians, describe chariots being used in warfare rather than cavalry.

What are the signs of a saddle with a poor fit on a horse?
The horse I ride is quite narrow, and I use a roper saddle for him and the brand is not known. I use a navajo pad and then a general saddle pad for him on top of it.
The easiest way to notice that the saddle doesn't fit well is that the gullet sits right down on your horse's withers when you climb on board. You should have at least 2 fingers clearance between the gullet and the saddle pad. You will also notice dry spots after a ride if your saddle doesn't fit well and those will be under the saddle pad where the saddle has rested.
IF your horse's back is too short/long for the skirts, you'll find rub marks from the saddle pad.
Those are the basic ways to know if your saddle isn't fitting well.
