How do I tell if my saddle has semi or full bars?
I'm trying to sell my dad's old saddle, but I'm not sure how to tell if the bars are semi or full.
Okay I measured the distance between those two little screws under the fork, but I'm barely over half way to five inches. Am I measuring the right part because I'm getting less than 5 inches and no one said anything about less than 5 inches.
Feel around in the gullet until you find the screw or nail on each side right under the fork. Measure straight across between the screws or nails.
There is no real hard and fast, totally accurate measurement in the saddle industry but the following is pretty close:
Regular 5 3/4 inches
Semi 6 inches
Full 6 1/4 - 6 1/2
Extra wide 6 3/4 - 7

Should I get a full QH bar saddle of a semi QH bar saddle? Pleaseee help!?
So i want to buy a saddle, but I dont know if I should buy a Full QH bar saddle of a semi QH bar saddle. I dont own a horse but i do ride alot so which one is the more common size???!! Thank you!

NEITHER.
There is no "common size."
If you buy a Billy Cook saddle, their version of a FQHB and SEMI QHB will be different than a Tucker's version or a Circle Y version.
#1. decide what brand you want
#2. MEASURE the horses you're going to use the saddle on
#3. Then decide which fits best (fits the horses best)
Semi bars will tend to be narrow, full bars will tend to be wide. So, if you're riding nothing but mutton withered, stout wide quarter horses.....then the full bars will probably fit best for those horses.
If you ride mostly thorobred types that are high withered and slender, narrow....then you might get the semi bars and that saddle might fit most of those horses.
One size does not fit all.
One quarter horse might have a slender build vs another quarter horse has a higher wither = full bars won't fit both horses.
If you really want a saddle that can fit most, almost all, horses.....then you'll need to spend a lot of $$ for a Flex Panel Saddle (not to be confused with a flex tree saddle)
I am a trainer and I ride all kinds of sized horses, from fat wide ones to slender tiny ones and I've got a Timberline saddle which has flexible panels for bars = they move according to the horse.
Look at the Timberline saddles.
