How to fit any type of english saddle on a draft?
Wondering if anyone can help Miller and I. He is a short/small Percheron/paint standing only at 15.5hds. But his body is built like a percheron. He has no wither defination and is wide as a lazy-B. I'm trying to find any type of english saddle that has a tree to fit him. Thank you for any help
I would look into investing in either a custom saddle, if you're in it for the long run, or a saddle with a changeable gullet system. A custom saddle's definitely going to be more expensive, ranging in prices from which saddler you purchase from. However, if a lower price is your fancy, I would attempt a saddle with an easy change gullet system. Wintec makes them, if you want synthetic, and they even have leather ones now. Many of them come with an extra wide plate that just might fit your horse.
That's what I beleive to be your two options, either these or you may be doomed to an eternity of trying saddles from your local tack shop and not having them fit. I hope I gave you a bit of help. Good luck!

draft scared of his saddle and blanket still?!?
i have a very big 19hh 8 yr old percheron, who we purchased from amish a while back. ever since we've had him and put a saddle on him, he is deathly scared of a saddle and blanket. yes, i know how to fix this, but he seems to not respond to it! he is fine after its on his back. he rides perfectly as well. he's just still to this day very frantic of the saddle and blanket! ive thrown towels over him millions of times, done it with the blanket, taken the saddle on and off hundreds more times. some at the barn mentioned it was the fact that the amish had broken him, not us, so hes not accepting. this is all so crazy though!
any helpful advice please?
i didnt mean negatively towards the amish, i meant that maybe hes more fond of the amish than us now. i let him sniff it as well, and i never thought of the how tall he is fact haha. thanks(:
I'm with Jillian. Every single horse I've ever worked with or ridden that was Amish trained was a complete head case. In fact, my knees are killing me right now from an old injury caused by a half-insane Amish trained horse. 
I don't mean to be negative towards the Amish either, but they use very different methods than you and I, because they view horses in a much different way than you and I do. I am not a fan of their training methods, at least not from what I've seen so far.
What does your horse do when you try to tack him up? Does he fight you, or does he quiver or try to get away?
It's kind of hard to determine what you need to do since we don't know what he's doing. I think all you really can do is go extremely slow with him and just repeat, repeat, repeat. Do just the saddle pad, don't even bother with the saddle at this point. I think it would probably be safe to say that he could be traumatized, and so would require far different techniques than a horse that is simply spooky or young.
