How do I get her canter smooth?
Hey,
i have a Appaloosa (don't know if she is pure) 5yr/o mare. she's just had a foal and is starting to spook again when I ride her alone (i'm sure she'll come good). but that is not my problem, from day one my mare has had terrible gaits, her walk and gallop are fine, her trot is a little off balance at times, but her canter is the worst.
At times her canter nearly flicks me out of the saddle (i use an Australian Stock saddle & an English Pelham draft horse bit ), i don't have a trainer nor do i have access, i don't have an arena or anything, all i have is an open paddock (with Trees). I was wondering how do i correct her canter? with what little i do have.

You might try keeping your legs on her, giving her a nudge every stride. This could also help with the spooking. I am not familiar with the stock saddle coming from UK. Also get her saddle checked, if she has just had a foal, she is likely to have changed shape and all these gait problems may be to do with discomfort in the back area. And her muscles will be slack which might explain he unbalance.
When was she backed? A foal at 5 means she must have been backed very early - the pregnancy lasts 11 months. If you have just started riding again, it is not surprising she is a bit skittish.
I do not think the Pelham is a good idea, it can be very severe especially if ridden with unsympathetic hands or on one rein. Could you try getting hold of a snaffle which while giving control might allow her to go a bit more forward. Also, when you next have the vet out she will benefit from a general check up, including back and teeth. Yes, even a 5 year old can have tooth problems.
Even in a stock saddle you can do turns and circles, bringing your outside leg back a bit which will help engage the hind end.
To help with fittening slow walking up and down steep hills will help build the muscles in the hind quarters and back, and will improve her wind without hammering her legs.
Another point, I notice you say that she is "flicking you out of the saddle". I suspect you might be gripping with your lower leg, tilting you forward. Try taking your legs away from her sides, bring your knees up together feel your seat bones, keep that feeling and then letting your legs hang longer. This should make you sit up taller and deeper in the saddle.

Stock saddle measurement ?
I was wondering are australian Stock saddles measured differently than english saddles they're all measured in inches but because of the knee block and everything are they measured differently. I was just wondering because you see a lot of 15 inch stock saddles for sale and that's not that big if you go but english standards.
Hey aussie stock saddles are measured differently to regular english saddles as the reference points for the measurments are different.
Roughly a 16.5' english saddle is 15' stock... however in saying that... if you are looking at buying a wintec or bates saddle then they are the same sizes to make it easier...
And as a last note... all saddles will have slightly different sizes and positions... so if your after a specific size you will really need to sit in the saddle to check. I've got 16.5 all purpose a 17' dressage, a 17.5 jumping and a 16 stock saddle... so its really hard to tell.. good luck and always try before you buy
